The Department of Public Works is responsible for street cleaning, road maintenance, sewer and drainage maintenance, wastewater collection and treatment, solid waste collection, recycle collection, snow and ice control, sidewalk construction, traffic control sign installation and maintenance, street lighting, right-of-way excavation permits, right-of-way maintenance, fleet management, and water filtration and distribution.
The Public Works Department also maintains the City’s Small Works Roster. Whenever the City seeks to construct any public works projects or City improvements, the estimated cost of which is $200,000 or less, the Small Works Roster may be utilized. The City invites proposals from appropriate contractors to have their names added to the Small Works Roster, to perform such typical projects as storm sewers, sanitary sewer lines, water main lines, booster pumps, paving, small buildings, structure remodels, landscaping, Park and Golf Course projects, etc. All interested contractors are hereby invited to submit an application. Applications are accepted continuously and will be updated every other year. Public Works also responds to requests for Utility Locate Information. Before commencing any excavation, the excavator shall provide notice of the scheduled excavation to all owners of underground utilities.
